“From Manual LPN to Automated FNSKU”
S – Situation: Four years ago, our company faced a challenge with its open devices, which had to go through a time-consuming process known as WHD grading. This process involved using a tool called “Grizzly UI” to assign an LPN (License Plate Number) to each device. The LPN served as a critical identifier for these devices.
T – Task: The WHD grading process was essential but cumbersome, leading to operational inefficiencies and increased costs. When I learned that LAB126 was developing a new tool called “Pedigree,” which had the potential to streamline this process, I recognized an opportunity for improvement.
A – Action: I decided to take proactive action by reaching out to LAB126 to discuss the feasibility of incorporating a feature into the Pedigree software that could eliminate the need for the WHD grading process. Following a productive meeting with their team, they advised me to submit a formal project proposal outlining the financial impact and benefits of this proposed feature.
I prepared a comprehensive document that included:
- A detailed cost-benefit analysis, showcasing the financial advantages of implementing the new feature.
- A projection of time savings and operational improvements.
- Implementation cost for our department (Printers and Training hours)
- A timeline for implementation.
R – Result: Thanks to the well-structured project proposal, our company successfully integrated the feature into the Pedigree software. As a result, the WHD grading process was eliminated, saving us hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. The new system print FNSKU labels automatically when our AAs Kit a WHD device, improving operational efficiency and reduced the margin for error, ultimately benefiting our bottom line and enhancing customer satisfaction.
This project exemplifies the power of proactively identifying areas for improvement, collaborating with external partners, and demonstrating the financial benefits of innovative solutions. Today, our company enjoys the advantages of a streamlined process, all because of the initial vision to transform LPNs into FNSKUs and the successful execution of the project.
